Brian was diagnosed with Osteo Sarcoma (bone cancer) in the spring of 2000 during his junior year at Brother Rice. He missed his senior year but was invited to participate in the graduation ceromonies where he was presented with "The Spirit" award by the faculty and staff. Brian continued his education by taking two classes at Brother Rice and two classes at Oakland Community College and thus was awarded his high school diploma in the spring of 2002.
Brian continued to fight his illness by taking chemotherapy treatments at William Beaumont Hospital and experimental inhaler treatments through the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
Brian's compassion, love for life, passion for sports and sense of humor never waned during his illness. He was able to dictate letters to friends and family as well as select gifts that were to be given after his death, on April 1, 2003.
On behalf of the entire McConnell family, we wish to thank all of our friends and family who have been so supportive in the development and continuation of Brian's wish.
Sincerely,
Bill & Carol McConnell
